Before you start
Requires a destination, recording, or analyzer capable of decoding CEA.
- Sign in with access to the correct organization, team, and event.
- Record event, language, workstation, app build, OS, drivers, destination, and operator.
- Commission with a test pattern and non-public receiver before program video.
- Run an output with embedded captions.
- Use a script with short, long, corrected, and silent intervals.
- Access every downstream processing stage.
Validation
- Disable burned-in/player overlays that could mask failure.
- Select CEA-708 service 1 and read the script.
- Select CC1 when 608 compatibility is required.
- Check characters, punctuation, ordering, lines, presentation mode, placement, and clears.
- Measure alignment using recorded speech/flash reference.
- Record two minutes and verify captions during independent playback.
- Repeat after every switcher, transcoder, CDN, platform, or recorder.
- Save evidence and exact sender/receiver versions.
What success looks like: Every required service is selectable, readable, synchronized, and preserved live and recorded.

- Live and recording both contain captions.
- Services match profile.
- Corrections/silence behave correctly.
- No downstream stage strips data.
Troubleshooting
- Preview passes/receiver fails: inspect insertion and bitstream.
- Live passes/recording fails: configure recorder/container.
- Service blank: verify event live state/language.
- Corrupt characters: test codec/container/decoder compatibility.
