Choose cloud recognition or approved local/offline capability based on quality, connectivity, privacy, and hardware.
Best for: Live producers, caption operators, audio engineers, broadcast engineers, and authorized event administrators.
Before you start
Audio, speech providers, multi-speaker features, and usage are governed by event permissions, plan entitlements, provider support, credentials or wallet, and browser/device compatibility.
- Use the production event and supported browser/device.
- Know the source language, speaker plan, latency target, output requirements, and fallback.
- Test with representative voices, noise, pace, and the actual signal chain.
Step by step
- Define constraints. Languages, accuracy, latency, internet, privacy, cost, hardware, and offline duration.
- Evaluate cloud providers. Azure, Google Chirp 3, and Speechmatics offer different models/settings/coverage.
- Evaluate local capability. Confirm Desktop Operator version, downloaded model, language, hardware/CPU/GPU, and feature limitations.
- Test representative audio. Use actual microphones/noise/speakers.
- Test network failure. Determine which features continue and which translations/TTS/outputs require cloud.
- Measure resource load. Observe latency, thermals, memory, and battery on the production machine.
- Set primary/fallback. Document activation, transition, and quality expectations.
- Review data policy. Understand where audio/text is processed and retained.
What this unlocks: The configured audio and recognition path produces stable, attributable captions within the approved latency/quality target and has a tested recovery path.
Check your understanding
- The selected mode meets the event’s language, latency, quality, privacy, and resilience needs on the actual hardware/network.
Common misconceptions
Local model unavailable
Install approved assets/version or use an entitled cloud provider.
Cloud disconnects
Use tested failover and preserve live state.
Local latency high
Reduce model/workload or upgrade hardware; do not promise unsupported performance.
Good to know
- Offline does not mean every platform feature is offline.
- Document model/version and license.
- Follow privacy policy for both local and cloud processing.
