Use auto detection only when language switching benefits outweigh provider, glossary, and stability limitations.

Best for: Live producers, caption operators, audio engineers, broadcast engineers, and authorized event administrators.

Before you start

Audio, speech providers, multi-speaker features, and usage are governed by event permissions, plan entitlements, provider support, credentials or wallet, and browser/device compatibility.

  • Use the production event and supported browser/device.
  • Know the source language, speaker plan, latency target, output requirements, and fallback.
  • Test with representative voices, noise, pace, and the actual signal chain.

Step by step

  1. List candidate languages. Keep the set small and actually expected.
  2. Confirm provider/model support. Auto mode and locale coverage differ.
  3. Review glossary limitation. Some glossary/adaptation features are unavailable or weaker in Auto input mode.
  4. Test switching pattern. Use full sentences, short phrases, names, code-switching, silence, and background speech.
  5. Observe detection delay. Measure time before correct locale/text.
  6. Review translation/TTS. Ensure target and voice behavior remains correct after source changes.
  7. Define fallback. Operators must be able to lock a specific language.
  8. Use specific language when stable. It usually improves predictability.

What success looks like: The configured audio and recognition path produces stable, attributable captions within the approved latency/quality target and has a tested recovery path.

Check your setup

  • Auto mode detects the expected languages within the approved delay and operators can lock a language if it becomes unstable.

Troubleshooting

Wrong language persists

Reduce candidate set or select the source explicitly.

Glossary disabled

Leave Auto mode or accept provider limitation.

Short phrases misdetect

Require more context or use fixed-language segments/events.

Security and operational notes

  • Auto detection is probabilistic.
  • Do not use it for safety-critical language switching without a human plan.
  • Document target-language consequences.
