Before you start

ASL must be enabled and entitled for the event. Roles, viewer integration, egress, usage, and PTZ availability depend on organization permissions, plan, devices, and current event state.

  • Assign a primary and backup interpreter/operator.
  • Use a supported camera, headset/microphone, well-lit space, stable network, and approved background.
  • Rehearse private and public paths on the same devices/network used for production.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Announce the failure. Interpreter/operator tells the producer and states public impact.
  2. Classify. Single device, browser permission, cable/driver, network, computer, interpreter, or egress.
  3. Protect public output. Use approved hold/alternate interpreter rather than showing a desktop/private stage.
  4. Switch to backup. Select tested camera/headset/network/interpreter.
  5. Recheck framing and privacy. Crop, lighting, talkback, and public audio.
  6. Recheck confidence captions. Language/freshness.
  7. Verify public viewer. Do not rely on local preview.
  8. Preserve evidence. Device names, time, logs, impact, and recovery.
  9. Repair primary off air. Return only with approval.

After the fix: Interpreters receive safe private coordination and the audience receives a verified public ASL output with tested recovery.

Confirm the fix

  • A tested backup restores public ASL or the event enters a clear communicated degraded mode.

If the problem continues

New camera selected but no public video

Check operator Program source/output and egress.

Browser permission resets

Grant on the official origin and reload the interpreter surface once.

Old device remains busy

Close other apps and reselect; do not repeatedly unplug live hardware.

Escalation and safety

  • Never expose private stage during recovery.
  • Consent and recording policy still apply to backups.
  • Coordinate before switching interpreters.
