BYOD phones and headphones

Where enabled, the public viewer can play LL-TTS for an admitted viewer who selects a supported target language, makes a user gesture to unlock playback, and uses headphones.

  • Dependencies: attendee device readiness, headphones, viewer admission, supported language, and suitable network access.
  • Operations: plan instructions and support for joining, selecting a language, unlocking audio, and device volume.

Signal plus managed receivers

Signal receives server-generated LL-TTS and routes each independently delivered language to a dedicated physical audio-interface output. A compatible venue-approved transmitter and receiver system carries that channel to attendee receivers and headsets.

  • Dependencies: Signal workstation and license, physical I/O, compatible external hardware, RF plan, receivers, headsets, and production staff.
  • Operations: plan labeling, distribution and return, charging, sanitation, coverage checks, and attendee channel selection where the external system supports it.

Hybrid delivery

BYOD and Signal consumers of the same event and language can share one generation lane. Hybrid delivery adds listener options, but both the network and managed-receiver operations must be planned and supported.

Important: Extended Screen and QR captions are text or caption destinations. They are not wireless audio, RF channels, or substitutes for a spoken-audio output.

Choose and prepare

  1. Estimate listeners by room, language, and preferred device model.
  2. Assess attendee network access, headset or headphone needs, and accessibility requirements.
  3. Validate transmitter model, input channels, RF restrictions, receiver inventory, and venue approval for managed delivery.
  4. Identify support staffing, distribution, return, charging, sanitation, and fallback processes.
  5. Rehearse every selected listener path with real devices and representative coverage.

Verify the experience

  • A BYOD user can join, unlock, select, and hear the correct language on headphones.
  • A managed receiver can tune the intended external transmitter channel and play clean audio on its headset.
  • Labels and instructions prevent cross-language selection errors.
  • Text captions remain visibly separate from audio-delivery instructions.
  • Fallbacks are usable by the people expected to activate them.

Troubleshoot

  • BYOD support load too high: simplify joining instructions and retain the planned managed or caption fallback.
  • Receiver coverage or inventory uncertainty: request venue and human production review; do not promise compatibility or availability.
  • Hybrid paths differ in delay: do not promise sample-accurate synchronization across devices and RF equipment.
