Register a biometric, device credential, phone, or hardware security key for passwordless sign-in.

Best for: Users with a WebAuthn-compatible browser/device.

Before you start

Passkeys are optional; device, operating-system, browser, authenticator, and enterprise policy determine availability.

  • Enable device screen lock and biometric/PIN protection.
  • Sign in through a trusted method.
  • Keep an independent recovery method before removing the last passkey.

Step by step

4All passkey onboarding step
Passkeys provide a phishing-resistant sign-in option and can be added after account setup.
  1. Open Account Settings → Passkeys. Review existing names first.
  2. Choose Add passkey. Follow the browser or OS prompt.
  3. Select the intended authenticator. Use a platform authenticator, synced provider, phone, or hardware key allowed by policy.
  4. Name it clearly. Use labels such as Studio laptop or Primary security key.
  5. Complete user verification. Approve biometric, PIN, or key presence.
  6. Test in a private window. Choose Use a passkey and confirm the correct account.
  7. Remove obsolete credentials. Delete lost, retired, shared, or unidentified passkeys only after recovery is tested.

What success looks like: The passkey appears, authenticates the intended account, and obsolete authenticators are removed safely.

Check your setup

  • The passkey has a recognizable name.
  • Private-window sign-in works.
  • At least one independent recovery path exists.

Troubleshooting

No prompt

Check WebAuthn/browser support, screen lock, policy, and hardware connection.

Wrong account opens

Inspect authenticator account selection and remove duplicates after recovery validation.

Removal fails

Refresh, reauthenticate, and use a supported browser.

Security and operational notes

  • Protect passkey devices as credentials.
  • Do not register on an untrusted shared machine.
  • Inventory and back up hardware security keys.
