Before you start

Requires supported hardware, vendor drivers, and matching GStreamer plugins.

  • Sign in with access to the correct organization, team, and event.
  • Record event, language, workstation, app build, OS, drivers, destination, and operator.
  • Commission with a test pattern and non-public receiver before program video.
  • Know the source connector, resolution, frame rate, pixel format, audio mapping, and timecode behavior.
  • Confirm the device in its vendor utility.
  • Schedule an off-air test window.

Configuration

  1. Choose Blackmagic, UVC, or Test in Video Input.
  2. For Blackmagic, select the persistent device ID, Auto/SDI/HDMI/optical/component/composite/S-Video connection, and exact source mode.
  3. Begin with default profile and automatic pixel format. Advanced choices include 8/10-bit YUV/RGB, RP188/VITC/serial timecode, VANC/CC/AFD, stream time, capture buffer, and initial-frame skip.
  4. Use embedded audio unless the design calls for AES or analog; select 2, 8, or 16 channels and validate alignment thresholds.
  5. For UVC, select video and audio separately and revalidate device IDs after USB topology changes.
  6. Preview before a network target; inspect framing, motion, color, audio channels, lip sync, discontinuities, and stability.
  7. Document firmware, driver, connector, mode, and known-good settings.

What success looks like: Preview shows continuous video with correctly mapped audio and no negotiation, clock, or buffer errors.

Check your setup

  • Device ID/mode survive relaunch.
  • Frame rates match or intentionally convert.
  • Audio is present and synchronized.
  • Source loss produces a health error.

Troubleshooting

  • No DeckLink signal: match the physical connector and exact Desktop Video Setup mode.
  • UVC index changes: reselect by stable name/ID.
  • Audio drift: inspect 48 kHz clocks, channels, buffer, and alignment.
  • Dropped frames: reduce bus load or increase buffer cautiously.

Security and operational notes

Important: Do not change a DeckLink profile, connector, or mode during a production pipeline; all sub-devices can reset.
