Before you start
Hardware acceleration requires compatible Apple, NVIDIA, or Windows Media Foundation hardware and drivers.
- Sign in with access to the correct organization, team, and event.
- Record event, language, workstation, app build, OS, drivers, destination, and operator.
- Commission with a test pattern and non-public receiver before program video.
- Restart Encoder after runtime/driver changes.
- Connect and power the capture device.
- Document the intended input, codec, caption mode, and protocols.
Validation
- Refresh Media Diagnostics and confirm GStreamer plus the gst-launch-1.0 path.
- For DeckLink, verify decklinkvideosrc/decklinkaudiosrc and detect the device in Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup.
- For UVC, verify AVFoundation on macOS or Media Foundation/WASAPI on Windows.
- For Apple Silicon verify vtenc_h264_hw; for NVIDIA verify nvd3d11h264enc or nvh264enc.
- Verify tttocea608, tttocea708, cccombiner, and h264ccinserter before embedded captions.
- Verify rtmp2sink, srtsink, or ristsink for every target.
- Run a 60-second SMPTE/tone/caption test and inspect load, dropped frames, state, and receiver decode.
What success looks like: All dependencies are present and the chosen hardware encoder runs without silent fallback.
Check your setup
- No required plugin is missing.
- Capture exposes the expected mode.
- CEA insertion links successfully.
- Each target reaches connected.
Troubleshooting
- Missing element: repair the matching bundled plugin set; do not mix releases.
- Hardware encoder fails: update its driver and test Auto or x264.
- DeckLink has no signal: match connector/profile/mode.
- Sink fails: validate DNS, firewall, protocol, port, and receiver.
