Product Ecosystem and Data Flow

How the 4All web platform, viewer outputs, Desktop Operator App, XPression Bridge, and Encoder work together.

Select the correct product boundary and trace the production data path so audio, captions, control signals, and outputs are assigned to the right system.

Best for: Technical directors, broadcast engineers, production IT, administrators, and senior operators designing an end-to-end workflow.

Before you start

The web platform is the system of record for organizations, events, live configuration, sharing, and billing. Desktop products require their own supported Windows build and, where applicable, an assigned desktop license.

  • A diagram or written description of the existing audio, video, graphics, network, and audience path.
  • Known ingest and output requirements such as browser display, OBS overlay, XPression DataLinq, RTMP, SRT, RIST, or embedded CEA-608/708.
  • Firewall and endpoint ownership for every machine in the path.

Reference

  1. Place the 4All cloud platform at the center. Create the organization and event in 4All.Live. Configure audio inputs, recognition, translation, caption tuning, displays, destinations, and permissions in the event’s Setup Wizard or Live Setup workspace.
  2. Choose the operator surface. Use the supported web application for normal operations. Use the 4All.Live Desktop Operator App when local packaging, desktop authentication, approved local models, or offline-oriented capabilities are required.
  3. Choose audience-facing browser outputs. Use the attendee viewer for personal language and display controls, Program Display for a shared public screen, Closed Captions for transparent production overlays, and Extended Screen for a separately paired presentation surface.
  4. Add ASL when required. Enable ASL, prepare the interpreter device and private stage, then operate the public ASL Program output. Treat interpreter coordination and public output as separate paths.
  5. Add XPression Bridge for graphics insertion. The Windows XPression Bridge subscribes to the selected 4All caption source and writes formatted data through WebSocket DataLinq, captioning TCP, RSS over HTTP, or UDP. Ross XPression reads that data into a scene or template.
  6. Add 4All Encoder for contribution encoding. The Windows Encoder accepts a test, Blackmagic, or UVC video source; encodes H.264/H.265 video and AAC/Opus audio; optionally embeds CEA-608/708 captions; and sends RTMP, SRT, or RIST.
  7. Define monitoring at each handoff. Verify audio at ingest, captions in Live Setup, translations in the viewer, graphics in XPression, embedded captions on a downstream decoder, and stream health at the final receiver. Monitoring only the source application is insufficient.

Use this reference to confirm: A documented data-flow diagram shows each application, machine, protocol, port owner, credential boundary, monitoring point, and recovery owner.

Validation checks

  • Disconnect a noncritical test source and confirm the correct monitor detects it.
  • Send a known caption phrase and trace it through every configured output.
  • Confirm whether each destination is authenticated, tokenized, public, LAN-only, or internet-facing.
  • Document which operator can stop or take over the session.

Compatibility notes

Using XPression Bridge as an encoder

Bridge formats and transports caption data to graphics systems; it does not encode the complete video program.

Using Encoder as the primary caption editor

Encoder packages captions with audio/video; caption recognition, correction, translation, and display behavior remain event-level responsibilities.

Skipping downstream validation

A green source status does not prove that a firewall, DataLinq mapping, decoder, stream receiver, or venue screen is correct.

Limits and cautions

  • Avoid placing credentials or unrestricted control endpoints in diagrams distributed outside the production team.
  • For remote-machine desktop workflows, coordinate static addressing or reliable DNS and explicitly approve only the required ports.
  • Maintain a bypass or alternate output path for high-consequence productions.
