Connect Signal to a supported network audio peer only after both endpoints agree on the path and the production network has been validated.

Best for: production teams transporting audio between compatible workstation or network endpoints under a controlled network design.

Plan the connection

  • Identify which Signal endpoint sends and which receives.
  • Agree on the peer identity and the channels carried in each direction.
  • Where the application presents codec or format choices, configure matching values at both ends.
  • Confirm firewall policy, addressing, network capacity, and access with the responsible network team.
  • Prepare a monitored fallback path before the live session.

Configure the nodes

  1. Stop the pipeline and add the network sender or receiver node.
  2. Select the approved peer and map the intended channels.
  3. Match any codec or format setting presented by Signal.
  4. Connect a meter before the sender and after the receiver where possible.
  5. Start both ends off air and validate continuous audio in the intended direction.
  6. Interrupt and restore the test network path, confirm recovery behavior, then return to the approved production state.

Important: a Signal network peer is not a wireless attendee transmitter. It does not establish RF frequencies, receiver channels, headset coverage, or venue approval.

Verify the network path

  • Both endpoints identify the same peer and channel plan.
  • Codec or format selections agree where they are presented.
  • Source and receive meters show the expected content without sustained gaps.
  • The firewall and production network permit the path throughout rehearsal.
  • The fallback is labeled, monitored, and ready to take over.

Troubleshoot

  • No peer: confirm both endpoints are online, authorized, and reachable on the approved network.
  • Connection but silence: verify channel agreement, format agreement, graph edges, and meters at both ends.
  • Dropouts: inspect the network, firewall behavior, buffering, source stability, and receiving output separately.
  • Wrong content: stop and compare the peer and channel mapping with the production plan.
  • Unstable path: use the approved fallback rather than changing network topology on air.

Security and operational notes

Use only the venue-approved network and peer configuration. Monitor the path as a production transport, and do not infer security, compatibility, or availability from a short successful connection test.
