Before you start
Requires a RIST-compatible receiver and routable network path.
- Sign in with access to the correct organization, team, and event.
- Record event, language, workstation, app build, OS, drivers, destination, and operator.
- Commission with test pattern and a non-public receiver before program video.
- Obtain receiver URI/port, profile, and security requirements.
- Approve firewall/NAT changes.
- Schedule a joint receiver test.
Configuration
- Add a RIST target and name it for circuit/receiver.
- Choose Simple for broad basic interoperability or Main only when both implementations support it.
- Enter the full rist://host:port URI.
- Enter passphrase in the protected field and transfer it securely.
- Match video/audio requirements and start with test pattern.
- Verify receiver lock, continuity, bitrate, and captions.
- Test expected impairment/recovery in rehearsal.
- Record exact profile and sender/receiver builds.
What success looks like: The receiver locks and maintains decoding under planned network conditions.
Check your setup
- Profiles match.
- UDP routing/firewall are correct.
- Video/audio/captions arrive.
- Controlled recovery is acceptable.
Troubleshooting
- No lock: verify URI, port, routing, profile.
- Authentication fails: compare passphrases securely.
- Intermittent decode: inspect bitrate, loss, buffer, and compatibility.
- Captions missing: verify CEA preservation in H.264.
Security and operational notes
Important: Do not assume Main-profile interoperability without a joint test. Pin known-good builds for critical production.
