Before you start
Included with 4All Encoder.
- Sign in with access to the correct organization, team, and event.
- Record event, language, workstation, app build, OS, drivers, destination, and operator.
- Commission with a test pattern and non-public receiver before program video.
- Create a stream and test destination.
- Prepare a receiver/local preview.
- Use a downstream decoder capable of selecting CEA services.
Step by step
- Set Input to Test.
- Choose SMPTE for alignment/color, Ball for motion, or Snow for stress.
- Enable tone only after warning the audio team and lowering monitor gain.
- Start with a conservative 1080p30 or 720p30 H.264 profile.
- Open preview with safe area and captions.
- Start one target, trigger captions, and select the embedded service at the receiver.
- Stop and disable tone before program audio.
What success looks like: Deterministic video/audio cross the complete path with captions embedded by the selected profile.
Check your setup
- Preview and receiver show the same pattern.
- Tone reaches expected channels.
- Caption timing can be measured.
- Stop returns targets/pipeline to stopped.
Troubleshooting
- Black receiver: validate codec/container and lock.
- No tone: verify Include tone and mapping.
- No captions: inspect CEA plugins, service, and decoder.
- Stutter: inspect rate control, GPU, bitrate, and uplink.
Security and operational notes
Important: Test tone can be disruptive or damaging at high levels. Announce it and reduce monitoring gain first.
