Install a supported signed Signal build on macOS, Windows, or Linux and manage production updates safely.

Install 4ALL Signal on a supported production workstation, then prove that the signed application can start, stop, and relaunch while the system is off air.

Best for: technicians preparing a new Signal endpoint or scheduling a production-safe application update.

Check the workstation

  • macOS: macOS 13 or later and the signed DMG package.
  • Windows: Windows 10 version 2004 or later, WebView2, and the Windows installer.
  • Linux: a PipeWire audio system and a supported AppImage, DEB, or RPM package.

Confirm the workstation, operating system, audio interface, and planned physical outputs with a 4ALL team member before relying on them for a live event.

Install Signal

  1. Stop any active production audio path and close the previous Signal process before changing the installed application.
  2. Open the package for the workstation platform and complete the normal signed installation flow.
  3. Launch Signal and allow required operating-system prompts.
  4. Complete authorization and license checks before building or starting a production pipeline.
  5. With the workstation off air, start a test pipeline, stop it cleanly, quit Signal, relaunch it, and repeat the start and stop test.

Important: do not treat stale unsigned or notarization workarounds as normal installation guidance. Use a current supported signed build.

Manage updates

Stable builds check automatically for updates. You can also run a manual update check when preparing the workstation. Review and apply ordinary updates during a maintenance window, then repeat the off-air start, stop, and relaunch validation.

If Signal reports Update required, the update is mandatory. A mandatory update can prevent operation and stops active pipelines. Move to the approved fallback path, update the application off air, and revalidate the complete local route before returning it to service.

Verify the installation

  • Signal opens without an installation or updater error.
  • The expected audio devices are present.
  • Authorization reaches a usable licensed state.
  • A test graph starts, produces expected local metering, stops, and starts again after relaunch.

Troubleshoot

  • If Windows authorization cannot open correctly, confirm WebView2 and the supported Windows release.
  • If Linux audio devices are absent, confirm that the workstation is using PipeWire.
  • If devices disappear after an update, stop Signal, verify the operating-system audio service and interface, then relaunch and test off air.
  • If the application remains in Update required, do not attempt to run a live pipeline until the mandatory update completes.

Operational boundary

Installing Signal does not validate an LL-TTS entitlement, provide external transmitters or receivers, or approve a venue audio or RF design. Those checks remain separate production tasks.
