Resolve missing, opaque, stale, cropped, soft, delayed, or incorrectly layered browser captions.

Best for: Event producers, display operators, accessibility leads, broadcast/AV engineers, web teams, and authorized remote operators.

Before you start

Availability depends on event access, plan entitlements, destination enablement, language configuration, and supported browser/display/network behavior.

  • Use the correct event and final source/target language configuration.
  • Know the physical or web destination, resolution, audience, privacy level, and monitoring owner.
  • Test the final receiving screen, embed, graphics path, or operator device—not only the setup preview.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Check the URL. Confirm it is the current event Closed Captions destination and correct language.
  2. Check event/source. Verify fresh captions in Live Setup.
  3. Check browser source. Visibility, scene, source refresh, dimensions, FPS, custom CSS, and network.
  4. Check alpha and layer order. Place above program video and preserve transparency.
  5. Check scaling. Use native program resolution and avoid multiple resizes.
  6. Check delay. Compare source segment, destination, OBS, encoder, and platform timestamps.
  7. Check sleep/reconnect. Disable source-machine power saving and rehearse browser-source restart.
  8. Capture final program evidence. Do not rely on the source preview.

After the fix: The intended audience or operator receives the correct event, language, styling, and control level with a documented reconnect and fallback path.

Confirm the fix

  • The root layer—4All, browser source, compositor, encoder, or receiver—is identified and corrected.

If the problem continues

Caption source visible in OBS preview but not program

Check scene/program bus and layer visibility.

Stale after scene change

Review refresh-when-active and page lifecycle.

Soft text

Match source/output resolution and avoid resampling.

Escalation and safety

  • Do not reveal stream keys or output URLs in evidence.
  • Coordinate scene/source restart on air.
  • Maintain a fallback graphic or Program Display path.
