Before you start
Audio, speech providers, multi-speaker features, and usage are governed by event permissions, plan entitlements, provider support, credentials or wallet, and browser/device compatibility.
Use the production event and supported browser/device.
Know the source language, speaker plan, latency target, output requirements, and fallback.
Test with representative voices, noise, pace, and the actual signal chain.
Step by step
Count actual speakers/channels. Document maximum concurrent speakers and whether each has a dedicated input.
Prefer deterministic routing when available. Dedicated channels give the clearest attribution.
Use diarization for mixed feeds. Choose provider/model support and accept that identity may be generic or delayed.
Use automatic switching when workflow requires. Configure confidence/hysteresis and a safe maximum speaker count.
Set labels. Use seat or generic Speaker labels when identity is uncertain.
Test turn-taking and overlap. Include interruptions, crosstalk, soft voices, accents, and pauses.
Inspect every output/export. Speaker behavior can differ between partials, finals, translations, and files.
Define manual fallback. Operators need a way to correct or simplify attribution.
What success looks like: The configured audio and recognition path produces stable, attributable captions within the approved latency/quality target and has a tested recovery path.
Check your setup
The chosen mode produces understandable captions and acceptable speaker attribution for both live outputs and exports.
Troubleshooting
Speakers merge
Improve channel separation, provider diarization/model, or pause threshold.
Rapid label flipping
Increase hysteresis/stability or use deterministic routing.
Wrong named identity
Use generic labels or correct routing; never represent uncertain identity as fact.
Security and operational notes
Diarization is probabilistic.
Limit enabled speaker count to plan/provider capability.
Do not expose biometric assumptions as verified identity.
