Before you start

Audio, speech providers, multi-speaker features, and usage are governed by event permissions, plan entitlements, provider support, credentials or wallet, and browser/device compatibility.

  • Use the production event and supported browser/device.
  • Know the source language, speaker plan, latency target, output requirements, and fallback.
  • Test with representative voices, noise, pace, and the actual signal chain.

Step by step

  1. Define the output need. Personal viewer, venue screen, broadcast graphic, ASL confidence, and transcript have different tolerance.
  2. Capture baseline. Measure first text, stable text, final text, and end-to-end output delay.
  3. Set partial policy. Show or suppress partials based on edit churn.
  4. Adjust stability. Increase for calmer text; decrease for faster responsiveness.
  5. Tune endpointing/segment assembly. Avoid both fragmentary finals and long frozen blocks.
  6. Configure deduplication. Test repeated phrases, corrections, provider reconnect, and translation.
  7. Configure highlight/rolling. Match line count and audience reading speed.
  8. A/B representative speech. Change one setting, record metrics, and choose the safer preset.

What success looks like: The configured audio and recognition path produces stable, attributable captions within the approved latency/quality target and has a tested recovery path.

  • Captions meet the documented latency target without unacceptable rewriting, duplication, or missing phrase endings.

Increase stability or reduce displayed partials.

Reduce provider/endpointing delay and inspect processing/network.

Relax gate/endpointing and test pauses/soft endings.
