Keep the live event controlled when recognition service, relay, credentials, quota, or regional availability fails.

Best for: Live producers, caption operators, audio engineers, broadcast engineers, and authorized event administrators.

Before you start

Audio, speech providers, multi-speaker features, and usage are governed by event permissions, plan entitlements, provider support, credentials or wallet, and browser/device compatibility.

  • Use the production event and supported browser/device.
  • Know the source language, speaker plan, latency target, output requirements, and fallback.
  • Test with representative voices, noise, pace, and the actual signal chain.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Confirm scope. Check audio meter, provider state, other events/regions, relay, credentials/funding, and network.
  2. Protect the audience. Use approved holding message/manual alternative and notify production/accessibility leads.
  3. Avoid repeated restart loops. Preserve session and evidence.
  4. Activate tested fallback. Follow the documented provider/device/network switch.
  5. Verify end to end. Confirm captions, translations, TTS, ASL confidence, graphics, Encoder, and viewer.
  6. Monitor recovery. Do not switch back immediately without stability evidence and authority.
  7. Record timeline. Provider, region, errors, changes, impact, and communications.
  8. Follow up. Reconcile usage, collect logs/status, update runbook and provider decision.

After the fix: The configured audio and recognition path produces stable, attributable captions within the approved latency/quality target and has a tested recovery path.

Confirm the fix

  • Captions resume through the approved fallback or the event enters a communicated degraded mode with evidence preserved.

If the problem continues

Unclear provider versus network

Compare local audio, general internet/WebSocket health, provider-specific state, and another approved path.

Fallback also fails

Use manual/alternate accessibility plan and escalate.

Service recovers intermittently

Hold the stable path until the change authority approves return.

Escalation and safety

  • Do not expose provider secrets in incident evidence.
  • Do not hide accessibility impact.
  • Follow contractual incident communication.
