Recover from Signal Device, Permission, License, Update, and Network Failures

Restore an unavailable Signal path by identifying the failed prerequisite before changing the graph, and keep the approved fallback active until the complete route is revalidated.
Best for: operators facing a disabled start control, unavailable source or event, authorization issue, mandatory update, or network interruption.
Start with the visible condition
- Start disabled: inspect the license state, mandatory update, missing devices, stopped applications, invalid graph, and unresolved sources.
- No events: confirm authorization, selected organization and team, network access, and whether an authorized event is available.
- Event unavailable: refresh events and select the correct authorized event; do not assume a saved event still exists.
- Waiting for publisher: restore the designated Live Setup producer's active recording session, producer lease, LL-TTS enablement, credentials, entitlement, wallet, caps, and network.
- Retryable TTS error: allow retry and backoff while monitoring the state and preparing fallback.
- Offline grace: check the server-issued lease expiration and restore connectivity before it ends.
- Missing device: restore the intended interface or select a previously approved fallback while the graph is stopped.
- Stopped source application: start the application and refresh its availability.
Restore permissions and network
On macOS 14.4 or later, verify System Audio Recording permission. On macOS 13 through 14.3, verify Screen Recording permission and do not assume reliable per-application isolation. After changing a permission, relaunch Signal and retest off air.
For network-dependent sources, validate the approved network, firewall, peer, event access, and server connection separately. Offline grace preserves only the device lease until its expiration; it does not create offline LL-TTS.
Handle licenses and updates
Important: revoked or expired licenses and mandatory updates stop active pipelines. Move to fallback and resolve them off air.
- Complete a fresh browser authorization if the callback expired or tokens are no longer valid.
- Have an authorized 4ALL team member restore a revoked, expired, or missing device license.
- If Signal shows Update required, install the mandatory signed update in a maintenance window.
- After either change, verify organization, team, event, devices, and the full output route.
Verify recovery
- Signal is Licensed and no mandatory update remains.
- All required source and output devices are available.
- The selected event and language are correct and TTS reaches Streaming.
- Source and output meters are stable without increasing underruns.
- The pipeline passes a controlled stop, restart, and application relaunch test.
Operational and security notes
Do not share tokens or credential-vault contents when escalating a failure. Preserve the failing stage and status details, then collect an inspected support package if the issue remains.
